WEEKLY NEWSLETTER JULY 25, 2025: THE CHILDLIKE HEART, A ROSE GARDEN, AND BE PREPARED TO WITNESS TO YOUR HOPE!

This week’s Angelus News column is about a chance encounter with a fellow random, gloriously joyful loner, in a rose garden, on the 4th of July. It’s also a paean to LA, and a tribute to the child-like heart.

Meanwhile I’ve been at St. Andrew’s Abbey all week–being revealed to myself in new and startling ways!

AND HERE’S THIS WEEK’S VIDEO:

DON’T FORGET TO VISIT ME OVER AT SUBSTACK WHERE I POST AT DESIRE LINES: BOOKS, CULTURE, ART.

    As always— thank you Heather!
Childlike heart? Quote from St. John of the Cross? Your musings? Exactly what I needed today.

Thanks Heather for voicing our thoughts about silence and our need for it so we are not distracted from God’s voice within. We also need to be aware of all the neurotic tendencies that keep us from turning over and over towards God in prayer. But you give us hope: it all takes time… My daughter when about 5 had a t shirt with: Don’t worry! God’s not finished with me yet!” printed on it. I’m hoping at the monastery you’re on the way to getting finished!

Ha love your kid’s T-shirt, Cynthia…It seems that if we truly want silence, we must consciously choose it…which means saying no to many many sources of “noise”…still, the silence is what some of us long for–and He knows our hearts better than we do…

“(Silence) provides that omen of free time which allows practical matters to be processed mentally AS THEY OCCUR, instead of forcing them to wait until the time of prayer where they appear as DISTRACTIONS”.

      Kind of brilliant right, Anne!
