NOTHING GOLD CAN STAY

Back to LA today.
I cried when I said goodbye to Mom.

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

  1. Nature rarer uses yellow
    Than another hue;
    Saves she all of that for sunsets,–
    Prodigal of blue,

    Spending scarlet like a woman,
    Yellow she affords
    Only scantly and selectly,
    Like a lover's words.

  2. Godspeed post facto!

  3. Kind of stunning picture.
